This client in Newburgh, N.Y., wanted a deck that connected their above-ground pool to the back of the house. We build a new, custom deck using Azek materials. We call this Florida, N.Y., homes one of our “diamonds in the rough.” Done as part of a home remodel, this deck on the back side of the home also features a patio underneath. The client wanted more space, which the deck provides plenty of for entertaining or just relaxing. We used Azek for the deck and rails, the siding is vinyl and the window surrounds are Azek PVS trim. For this existing cedar deck, first we did an assessment and identified several serious issues. We took it down and completely re-built it to match its former footprint. It was finished with western red knotty cedar. The rails are a 6-by-6 post with a chamfer edge, and included the lattice that provides a beautiful storage area underneath the deck.
